Days 1 and 2 (7 and 8 October, 2014)

Cacking my pants all the way, I drove from Brissie to Stanthorpe where I’ve stopped in the Top of the Town Caravan Park.  Lovely place nestled among the trees and huge.  Because I was on my own, I was only charged $20 a night.  Freaking bargain!

These things I have learned already –

– buy your food when you get the chance otherwise you’re at your overnight stop, you’re tired and the shops are not that close.  A can of chickpeas is not an interesting dinner.

– you need to walk a lot when you drive a truck.  The parking spots for trucks are far, far away from anywhere you want to go.

– and remember that when you drive a truck , you’re bigger (and better) than everyone else.

Haa, it’s been interesting.  I’ve also learned how to hook up to all the services and even filled my water tank today.

Plus, I am now a true nomad.  When I arrived here yesterday afternoon, I set up Betty then had happy hour starting at 4pm, dinner was at 5.30 pm and I was in bed and out like a light by 7pm!

Shall look at the maps now to see where I might rest my head tomorrow night.  Thought I’d try a spot of free camping.20141007_161404

In the beginning ….

Days 1 and 2 have been and gone and I’m as far as Ashgrove Caravan Park.  Oh well, at least I’m getting settled into the Betty bus, sorting my cupboards and trying to work out how to turn everything on etc etc.

My darling friend, Denise, arrived at the park on Monday, amid chaos, with sangers, juice and hugs for a ‘little bit teary’ me after just leaving River Place.  Thanks so much, hon, I was really feeling bizarre and your support was  much needed.

Since then, I’ve had a very constructive trip to both Bunnings and BCF and am now the proud owner of 2 new camp chairs.

Some wonderful friends (Margi, Keith, Lynne, Graham) arrived last night complete with table, tablecloth, candles, glasses, wine, food, chairs etc etc etc.  I had a really delicious curry dinner followed by the yummiest lime and pistachio cake (still warm from the baking) and icecream.  What a great first night’s dinner.  Fabulous food, great company, plenty of laughs!  Visitors are not meant to bring their vehicles into the park, but they said they were bringing so many goodies to “Australia’s newest Grey Nomad” that they needed to drive in.  Park Management obliged I’m happy to say!  Thanks guys for a truly memorable night.

Heading off to Margaritaville (ie Rob’s) tomorrow for a couple of days.
